Broken bones

So this is an old post that was started and never posted.  This happened last September, just a week and a half after Elliot was born.  Jerry had gone to Krav and taken the girls with him.  I was at home with Elliot and my phone had died so it was in another room charging.  I didn't hear it but went to check on it around 8:00 pm and saw a message from Jerry saying to come get the girls, Addy had hurt her arm.  I got down there and it was pretty swollen and she was not moving it nor letting anyone touch it.  She had fallen off of a coffee table in the lobby.  We later learned she had been "dared" to do a flip by one of the other kids at Krav.  The dare-devil that she is saw no problems with this dare!  So we rushed her to Instacare where they took x-rays and confirmed our fears...she had broken her arm, technically her elbow, something we were told is pretty common among toddlers.  So they splinted it and told us to get an appointment on in 3-6 days with an orthopedic surgeon.  Three days later we met with him and he took more x-rays and said that the bones had shifted and it needed to be reset.  He said he could do it there with us just holding her down or we could go to the ER and have them sedate her.  Jerry spoke for me since I was in tears and said that we would prefer to take her to the ER.
So at the ER they started an IV and called the on-call orthopedic.  It took quite a while for him to get there and when  he did we were told that it would be best to take her to Primary Children's hospital because it looked to him like she may need surgery.  So my dad came and got Gabe and off to PCMC we went with poor little Lady tired, hungry and thirsty (they wouldn't let her eat or drink just in case they needed to operate) and 2 week old Elliot.  Lady's arm still had the catheter inserted which was painful for her and so sad to see.  So the next orthopedic confirmed they needed to pin the bones but wasn't sure they needed to make any incisions.  They sedated her in my arms because she did not want to go anywhere with anyone but Mom and then took her to the OR.  She was only in the OR for about a half an hour when we got the call that she was done!  They didn't have to operate but they did put the pins in her arm.
She did not do so well coming out of the anesthesia.  She just wanted her Mommy but so did Elliot.  So I sat next to her on the bed feeding Elliot... just a little bit awkward!  After a big hit of morphine she finally settled down and they were able to take out her IV catheter and let her come home with us.  She was again just splinted but this time had pins sticking out of her arm.  They couldn't cast the arm until all of the swelling had gone down.  So  the next week we were able to get a pink cast on which put me at ease because this girl cannot be stopped!  I could not get her to lie still for anything! I was constantly worried she would bend the pins and everything would need to be redone.  She only had to wear the cast for a few weeks.  Again, this girl cannot be stopped!  She would find ways to get things done cast and all!  She even found ways to try to do push-ups.  Quite the ordeal for all of us but we fear this will not be the last with this little girl.

This is the night it happened

Pink cast

My sweet aunt, Julie, brought some bling for the cast but it only lasted a couple of days before Addy took it off.

Cast off, hooray!
